Concept art work - Water Elemental

I have been asked to create four very different characters I will post part of the process so you can see how the image's develop through the stages

it is important to know where you want your character positioned on the page

Once you are happy then you can start adding color

Here is the final design

Iteration Sheet - soldier

We have come back again to clothing designs here are my concepts for a soldier character i'm working on

Futuristic armor

Here I have tried to make the clothing more casual

I think this is too formal to be for a soldier

Here I have added a beret to get a more military look

This is the final design

In the end I decided to design my soldier off the mafia by giving him a fedora

Iteration sheet - Assassin

Here I'm developing concepts for the assassin class

Here I am deciding whether to keep a hood or not

Face concepts

Here I am quickly sketching up some face concepts, which will help determine the appearance of my character

With this one I was trying to draw different face shapes / structure

When drawing a face it is important to learn how to draw the skull or at least where everything goes as it will easily help you set guidelines of where the facial features are

This is an image I found  and below you can see this artist use's this to establish where to put the features

Once you have mastered this then designing proportional right characters will become easy

Here is another example I have found which demonstrates the extent you can got to in drawing a face

Pose's

While designing characters I need to see what they will be like when there used in a scene, so it is important to learn dynamic poses as it brings the character to life

these are some gestural drawings and they are a good practice to work where the line of action will flow

How to color a mermaid

Here I have started with line work with this image I wanted to keep colors clean and simple

Once the line work is created you will want to add a base color. This will be your chosen color for the design

Finally to add more depth you will want to add shadows. Simply go into the layer your using and click multiply. Now the color you used will be made much darker.

After that is done you can mess with the opacity settings  to get your desired look

Graphic Novel Style !

I am now testing my skills at a graphic novel style direction

This is the start of the main hero I wanted to capture a returning hero

Here The image seemed too dark in color so I brightened up the image and made a better contrast

This is the image Brightened up

This is the final Design.

I wanted the character to look like he is walking out of the page / panel
